Prof. Nagesh R.Iyer is currentlly the Distinguished Emeritus Professor for Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).He has had throughout brilliant academic career obtaining his Master of Engineering & Doctor of Philosophy from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His performance in the R&D activities and outstanding contributions enabled him to get noticed at young age and rise quickly in CSIR-SERC; His major contributions in the Industry sector for over 38 years of experience in the field of computer-aided analysis and design of complex and large structures that include power plant structures, flyovers, bridges, natural draught RCC hyperboloid cooling towers, offshore & ship structures, critical components of Aerospace Structures, etc. The major field of research has been Computational Structural Mechanics and Performance Evaluation/Condition Monitoring of Structures with strong bias towards efficient Structural Design. Known for his contributions in the area of Fatigue, Fracture Mechanics, Damage Mechanics, Damage Tolerance and Methods of Life Extension of structural components and performance evaluation & condition monitoring of structures, Innovative sustainable and/or new engineered materials and novel methodologies for retrofitting, Structure-Interaction studies; etc. He has made critical contributions to the above emerging areas of international importance. He is placed in the topmost layer of the scientists in the field of Computational Mechanics.

Talk Abstract

Prof. Iyer gave the seminar on the topic of inventions of Nikola tesla by playing a documentary of tesla to awoke and inspire the young minds of delegates. It started with the birth of Nikola tesla and his studies and fresh employment. Later it extended to his dream of harnessing the power of Niagara Falls to give electricity to the world. Nikola tesla won against Edison on the discussion of AC and DC and proved that AC is safer than DC to the world. Nikola tesla patented more than hundred patents among which most powerful inventions are remote technology, radio etc. He has shown the world the concept of wireless transmission of electricity. The seminar was very interactive and inspired all the students to go further in their research with the motivation of inventions of tesla.
