Dr. Sudakar Chandran holds a doctorate degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research interests include Surface, Interface, and Defects controlled Structure-Property Correlations: Synthesis, Structure and Properties of Magnetic, Optical and Electronic Materials; Oxide and Nitride Semiconductors; Nanostructures and Thin films; Materials Characterization by Electron microscopy and Optical spectroscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy.

Talk Abstract

A series of lectures were held which dealt with Electron microscopy techniques. The various aspects of Transmission Electron microscopy, such as sample preparation, placement and focusing of the sample was discussed in detail. Principles of Raman Scattering, Rayliegh Scattering, Stokes and anti Stoke’s  scattering were discussed in depth. The talk also touched upon the basics of Raman Spectroscopy to observe vibration and low frequency modes.
