Potentiostat and Galvanostat are electrochemical instruments used in electrochemistry, battery and fuel cell testing. Potentiostats are used to keep the potential (voltage) between a working electrode and a reference electrode at a constant value. Galvanostats are used to maintain a constant flow of current through an electrolytic cell. A galvanostat, (also known as amperostat) is a control and measuring device capable of keeping the current through an electrolytic cell in coulometric titrations constant by disregarding changes in the load itself. A potentiostat is the electronic hardware required to control a three electrode cell and run most electro analytical experiments.
